José Cruz Herrera

José Cruz Herrera (born October 1, 1890 in La Línea de la Concepción , Cádiz province , † August 11, 1972 in Casablanca ) was a Spanish painter, known for his naturalistic portraits of Andalusian women.

In 1907 Cruz Herrera traveled to Seville and received painting lessons from Gonzalo Bilbao. In 1910 he moved to Madrid , where he enrolled in the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando . In 1914 he studied in Paris and Rome.

On April 6, 1975, three years after his death, the Cruz Herrera Art Museum was opened in his birthplace, La Línea de la Concepción.
