José Espalter

José Espalter (born October 19, 1868 in Montevideo , † August 30, 1940 ) was a Uruguayan politician .

Life

Espalter, the lawyer , son of José Espalter and Juana G. de Espalter , graduated from the Universidad de la República with a doctorate in law in 1892 . Later he was also the rector of this university from 1930 to 1931 . He worked as a judge and was both an MP and a senator.

Espalter, who belonged to the Partido Colorado , held the post of Foreign Minister of his home country from March 19, 1935 to June 1, 1938 . His successor was Alberto Guani . In the course of his political activities he also held the ministerial offices for interior affairs and agriculture. He was also President of the Asamblea General .
