José Luis Casaseca

José Luis Casaseca y Silván (born August 25, 1800 in Salamanca , † October 9, 1869 in Barcelona ) was a Spanish chemist .

Casaseca was Professor of Chemistry at the Real Conservatorio de Artes and founder of the Faculty of Pharmacy in the Cuban capital Havana . From 1842 he was a corresponding member of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences .

In 1826 he described thenardite, a newly discovered mineral and naturally occurring sodium sulfate.
