José Luis Guntin

José Luis Guntin (* 1952 in Montevideo ) is a Uruguayan politician and journalist.

Guntin, who belongs to the Partido Colorado , began his journalistic career with the daily Acción . He worked there for about a year until the newspaper had to cease publication after the coup . Guntin was arrested during the civil-military dictatorship now ruling Uruguay on July 9, 1973, tortured in the port prefecture and spent a month in a naval barracks. In the 42nd and 43rd legislative periods he held a mandate as deputy senator in the Cámara de Senadores several times - for the first time from November 6, 1986 and most recently until January 15, 1993 . In the 1994 elections, he ran unsuccessfully for the Cámara de Representantes . Guntin, confidante of the former President Enrique Tarigo , held the position of editor-in-chief at the weekly Opinar in the 1980s . During his professional career, he was also deputy director of El Día newspaper and director of Canal 5 television . After living in Brazil for six years , he returned to Uruguay. There his memoirs entitled "La vida te da sorpresas" were published by Fin de Siglo in 2010.
