José María Campo Serrano

José María Campo Serrano (born September 8, 1832 in Santa Marta , Colombia , † February 24, 1915 in Santa Marta, Colombia) was the first President of the Republic of Colombia after the revolution of 1885.

Before being elected president, Campo Serrano held various political and military posts, including governor of the Magdalena province . During the revolution of 1885 he was chief of the civil and military administration of Antioquia . He held various ministerial posts in the governments of the Presidents Francisco Javier Zaldúa , Ezequiel Hurtado and Rafael Núñez .

Since there was no president or vice-president, Campo Serrano took over the affairs of state from April 1, 1886 and held it until January 6, 1887. During his tenure, the new constitution was passed (August 5, 1886), which remained in force until 1991 .
