José María Plá

José María Plá Machado (born October 15, 1794 in Maldonado , † April 23, 1869 in Montevideo ) was a Uruguayan politician .

Life

Plá, who belonged to the Partido Colorado , sat in the fourth and fifth legislative periods from October 28, 1841 to February 14, 1846 as a member of the Maldonado Department in the Cámara de Representantes . Later he represented the department temporarily as a senator for three legislative periods (in the 6th LP: March 5, 1854– July 15, 1854 // in the 7th LP: February 12, 1855– February 13, 1857 // 10th LP : February 14, 1868– April 22, 1869) and held the office of President of the Senate in 1856. In this capacity he replaced Manuel Basilio Bustamante on February 15, 1856 in the state leadership and remained until March 1, 1856 interim president of Uruguay . On April 23, 1869, he finally died during his last term as senator in office.
