Manuel Basilio Bustamante

Manuel Basilio Bustamante Piris (born June 20, 1785 in San Carlos , † November 11, 1863 in Montevideo ) was a Uruguayan politician .

Bustamante, who belonged to the Partido Colorado , sat from 1830 during the first to third legislative periods with interruptions until 1841 as a member of the Department of Colonia , Soriano and Maldonado in the Cámara de Representantes . Here he initially held the office of first Vice President of the House of Representatives from 1830 to 1833. In 1839 he finally held the presidency of the chamber. He then served as Senator for the Maldonado Department (October 26, 1841– March 6, 1844; removed from office due to absence from the session) and later for Paysandú (February 14, 1855– October 21, 1857 and February 13, 1858–15. July 1860). Here, too, from 1841 to 1843 he held the post of second vice-president and in 1854 that of the first vice-president of the Cámara de Senadores . In 1855 he finally took over the function of President of the Chamber. From September 11, 1855 to February 15, 1856, after Venancio Flores ' withdrawal during the conservative rebellion, he was also responsible for exercising executive power in the country as Luis Lamas ' successor .
