San Carlos is a city in Uruguay .

geography

It is located in the south of the Maldonado department in sector 2 . It is located about 15 kilometers from the city of Maldonado .

history

The place was founded in 1763 by the Spanish governor Pedro Antonio de Cevallos as part of the colonization of the continent, also to prevent Portuguese colonization of the region. The city is named after the then Spanish King Charles III. named in the Spanish spelling Carlos. On December 18, 1929, San Carlos was placed in the Ciudad category by Law No. 8559.

San Carlos has two secondary schools ( Liceo ). These are the June 1 in 1921 under the name Colegio Carolino de Enseñanza Secundaria founded Liceo Nº 1 de San Carlos "Presbítero Dr. Mariano Soler" and the Liceo Nº 2 de San Carlos "Luis Barrios Tassano" (date: 1995).
