José Pedro de Oliveira Galvao

José Pedro de Oliveira Galvão (born August 20, 1840 in Goianinha , † October 2, 1896 ) was a Brazilian military and politician.

From 1890 to 1896 he was Federal Senator for the State of Rio Grande do Norte .

Life

José Pedro de Oliveira Galvão was the son of Jose Pedro da Luz and Maria Josefina da Luz. In 1862 he fought in the Paraguayan War . He then went to a military school in Rio de Janeiro, joined the infantry and cavalry in 1871, became a lieutenant in 1876 and was appointed captain in 1879.

In 1890 he was promoted to lieutenant colonel. Pedro Velho de Albuquerque Maranhão , first governor of Rio Grande do Norte, noticed him and appointed him federal senator for his home state. He held this office for the legislative periods from 1890 to 1891, 1891 to 1893 and 1894 to 1896 until 1895, in 1896 he was promoted to brigadier general. In 1891 he was one of the signatories of the new Brazilian constitution .

He was married to Elvira Souto Galvão, with whom he had two children.
