José Ruiz de Arana y Bauer (born October 22, 1893 in Madrid , † December 27, 1985 in Biarritz ) was a Spanish diplomat .

Life

His parents were María de la Concepción Bauer y Morpurgo and Mariano Ruiz de Arana y Osorio de Moscoso, His titles were Duque de Baena, Duque de San Lúcar, Conde de Sevilla la Nueva, Vizconde de Mamblás, Grande de Espana.

He entered the diplomatic service on January 18, 1917. From 1917 to 1919 he was accredited in Lisbon. From 1919 to 1921 he was in Madrid in the Ministerio de Estado (Ministry of Foreign Affairs), where he was promoted to third degree secretary. In 1921 he was in The Hague, where he was promoted to second degree secretary. From 1921 to 1926 he was at the embassy in London. From 1926 to 1929 he was at the embassy in Montevideo. From 1929 to 1930 he was at the embassy in Tánger, where he was promoted to first degree secretary. From 1930 to 1931 he was with the Protectorate Government in Spanish Morocco. From 1931 to 1932 he was at the embassy in Paris. From 1932 to 1936 he rose to the position of director of the Sección Central in the Ministerio de Estado . From August 5, 1936 to 1939, he worked for the putschists and settled in Paris. The Republican government removed him from office on August 14, 1936.

From the government of Francisco Franco he was sent in 1939 as a third degree plenipotentiary to Résident Général Eirik Labonne in Tunis in the French protectorate of Tunisia .

When he returned to Madrid in 1940, he took the route via Washington. From 1942 to 1944 he was Ambassador to the Court of St James’s in London and was promoted to second degree ambassador in 1943.

From 1944 to 1948 he was at the Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague. From 1948 to 1951 he was Ambassador to the Court of St James's. From 1951 to 1954 he was at the embassy in Bern, as an observer at the Organizacion Mundial de Sanidad , where he was promoted to ambassador first grandes. On July 10, 1954, he was called to Ankara, where he was ambassador until 1956. From 1956 to 1963 he was at the Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague. He was retired on October 22, 1963.
