José Alberto Shaffer (born December 16, 1985 in Córdoba , Argentina ) is an Argentine football player on the position of defender .

Career

Shaffer began his career in his home country Argentina with the first division club Racing Club Avellaneda . After 6 months, however, he was awarded to IFK Göteborg , where he only came to 3 missions. After returning to Argentina, he made his way as a regular player for two years and played 37 games before moving to Portugal for the 2009/10 season, more precisely to the capital for Benfica Lisbon . After failing to gain a foothold at Benfica, Shaffer moved back to Argentina for six months at CA Banfield on loan. For the 2010/11 season he continued on loan to the Argentine club Rosario Central . In summer 2011 he returned to Portugal, where he was loaned to União Leiria for one season.

In September 2012, Shaffer terminated his contract, which ran until 2013, prematurely, as he saw no prospects for himself at Benfica.
