Jose Juan Verocay (born June 1876 in Paysandú , † 1927 or 1928 ) was a Uruguayan pathologist .

Life

Verocay spent the time of his high school education in Trento and studied medicine at the German University in what was then the Austro-Hungarian Prague. Here he received his doctorate in 1904. He then worked at the pathological institute of the German University in Prague at the side of Hans Chiaris . The so-called Verocay bodies , which he described for the first time in 1910, can be traced back to him. At that time, Schwannomas were also known as Verocay Neurinomas . In his native Uruguay, a postage stamp with his portrait was issued on December 18, 1998.
