Josef Bacher

Josef Bacher (born February 4, 1864 in Feldthurns , † October 15, 1935 in Unterfennberg near Margreid ) was an Austrian linguist , folklorist , folk song collector and priest .

From 1893 to 1899 Bacher worked as a curate in the German language island of Lusern in Trentino . He learned the Cimbrian dialect spoken there and began systematically to collect linguistic and folkloric material. In Unterfennberg, where Bacher worked until his death in 1935, he finally published his work Die deutsche Sprachinsel Lusern. History, living conditions, customs, customs, folk beliefs, legends, fairy tales, folk tales and rascals, dialect and word stock (Innsbruck 1905).
