Josef Bečvář (born August 11, 1958 in Pilsen ) is a Czech general and was Chief of the General Staff of the Czech Army from 2015 to 2018, making it the highest military representative of the Army.

Life

Military career

On April 1, 2008, he became Chief of Staff and Deputy Chief of the General Staff. In October of that year he was promoted to major general . From 2011 to 2014 he worked as a military attaché in his home country in France. On August 1, 2014, he was promoted to First Deputy Chief of Staff and on October 28, 2014, he was promoted to Lieutenant General. After taking over the post of Chief of General Staff from Petr Pavel in May 2015 , he was promoted to General ( Armádní generál ) on May 8, 2016 . In May 2018 he was relieved from the post of Chief of Staff by Aleš Opata .

Private

The general is married. His hobbies include reading and traveling.
