Josef F. Spiegel

Josef Ferdinand Spiegel (born May 15, 1927 in Dortmund , † April 9, 2007 in Soest ) was a German theologian , deacon and author .

Life

Spiegel studied philosophy and theology in Paderborn and Münster. Pedagogy and art history in Dortmund and Frankfurt. He was a monk with temporary profession in the Benedictine Abbey of Königsmünster in Meschede for five years.

After ten years of teaching, he came to the seminar for catholic as a pedagogical employee. Theology and didactics of the doctrine of the faith at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main. There he trained religious teachers.

In 1970 he was ordained a deacon by Bishop Walther Kampe in Limburg. Spiegel was one of the first men in Germany to hold the office of permanent deacon. He was one of the first Catholic married deacons in Germany.

From 1970 he headed the Institute for Pastoral and Religious Education in Mammolshain / TS., And was given a teaching position for didactics of religious instruction at the University of Frankfurt. In 1971 he was appointed to the Katholische Fachhochschule (KFH) NW, Paderborn department. Josef F. Spiegel took up his position as professor for religious education in the newly founded department of theology and was involved as a member of the constitutional committee in questions of the development and expansion of the young university. He was department head and deputy department head from 1981–1984. At the end of the 1986 summer semester, Prof. Josef F. Spiegel left the university for health reasons.

In 1974 Spiegel began his service as a deacon in the parish of Maria zur Höhe. After St. Hedwig was re-established in 1992, Archbishop Johannes Joachim Degenhardt entrusted him with accompanying the newly growing parish.

The Heimatverein Paderborn applied for a part of the Harderhausener Weg to be renamed in his honor due to the services of Spiegel. In 2011 the square at the church of the parish of St. Hedwig was named Josef-Spiegel-Platz.

Spiegel had been married to Magdalena Spiegel (née Riering) since December 28, 1956. She is also the author of Bible picture books. The marriage produced a son and a daughter.
