Walther Kampe
Walther Kampe (born May 31, 1909 in Wiesbaden , † April 22, 1998 in Limburg an der Lahn ) was auxiliary bishop in Limburg .
family
The parents, Otto Kampe († 1958 in Limburg), businessman and technician for the production of "artificial eyes", Catholic, and Lina geb. Blach († 1966 in Limburg), converted to Catholicism on the occasion of their marriage in 1908 , both came from the middle-class milieu of the spa town of Wiesbaden. The mother came from a Jewish merchant family whose members had fled during the Nazi era .
Life
On December 8, 1934 Kampe received in Limburg in the Pallottinerkirche the priesthood . At first he was involved in the pastoral care of the Bessarabian Germans abroad . After the Soviet occupation of the region in the summer of 1940 , he fled to Alba Iulia . There he was imprisoned by the Soviets in 1944 and had to do forced labor until 1947. On September 7, 1952, he was consecrated as titular bishop of Bassiana and first auxiliary bishop of the Limburg diocese . During the Second Vatican Council he directed the press work of the German bishops. As dean of the Limburg cathedral chapter , he played a key role in the renovation of Limburg cathedral . From 1981 to 1985 Kampe was President of Pax Christi Germany. He retired on May 31, 1984 and lived in Limburg. In 1992 Kampe suffered a severe stroke, from the consequences of which he was able to partially recover with a lot of willpower. He was buried on April 30, 1998 in the canon cemetery at Limburg Cathedral.
Kampe has been an honorary member of the Unitas Association since 1956 and an honorary member of the Catholic student association KDSt.V. since 1962 . Hasso-Nassovia Frankfurt am Main .
In 1970 he was appointed Knight of the Order of Knights of the Holy Sepulcher by Cardinal Grand Master Eugène Cardinal Tisserant and invested in Cologne Cathedral on December 5, 1970 by Lorenz Cardinal Jaeger , Grand Prior of the German Lieutenancy . Most recently he was a Grand Officer of the Order.
