Josef Fischer (Manager)

Josef Fischer (born July 11, 1912 in Oberhausen ; † November 27, 1978 in Essen ) was a German manager in the coal and steel industry.

Life

After graduating from high school, Josef Fischer first completed a commercial apprenticeship at Demag and then studied economics. During the Second World War he worked from 1940 to 1945 as an authorized signatory at Waagner-Biro AG in Vienna .

After his return to Germany, the Allies entrusted Fischer with the unbundling of the coal and steel industry and in 1946 he was assigned to the German Coal Mining Management (DKBL) as Finance Director. In addition, he worked in the main audit department of Vereinigte Stahlwerke AG until 1954 . In 1952 he became a board member of the outsourced Altenessener Bergwerks-AG, moved to the board of Harpener Bergbau AG in 1957 and from there in 1965 as CFO at Hoesch AG in Dortmund .

In 1973, Fischer succeeded Fritz Harders as CEO of Hoesch AG, which had been combined with Hoogovens under the Estel umbrella group since 1972 . At the holding company he held the post of deputy chairman of the board. He held both functions until he retired in 1976. He retained his supervisory board mandates at various commercial companies until his death.

Josef Fischer was married to Martha Kückelhaus since 1932. He had three daughters and four sons.
