Josef Fuchs (politician)

Josef Fuchs (born December 11, 1898 in Neunkirchen (Lower Austria); † January 5, 1979 there ) was an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ) and President of the Chamber of Labor in Lower Austria . From 1954 to 1964, Fuchs was a member of the Lower Austrian state parliament .

Fuchs worked professionally as a metal worker and from 1913 was involved in the social democratic working class youth . He also joined the trade union in 1916 and worked between 1924 and 1934 as works council chairman at Schoeller-Bleckmann Stahlwerke AG and local council. He lost his political mandate as a result of the Social Democratic Party banning and was also unemployed for several months. During the Second World War he served in the army from 1939 to 1940, after which he was employed in industry. After the end of the war, Fuchs became District Secretary of the Austrian Trade Union Federation (ÖGB) in Neunkirchen in 1945 , after which he was President of the Chamber for Workers and Salaried Employees in Lower Austria from 1948 to 1964 . Fuchs was also active as a member of the Lower Austria state executive of the ÖGB and member of the board of the SPÖ state party leadership and represented the SPÖ between November 10, 1954 and November 19, 1964 in the Lower Austrian state parliament.
