Josef Hahn (architect)
Josef Hahn (born March 21, 1884 in Hungarian Ostra ; † September 14, 1943 in Shanghai ) was an Austrian architect .
Life
Josef Hahn was the son of a Jewish merchant from Moravia . From 1907 to 1908 he attended the building school of the Technical University in Vienna with Karl König and Max von Ferstel . From 1919 to 1920 he completed a supplementary course at the state trade school . From 1927 he can be verified as an architect with his own buildings, which he built mainly for the municipality of Vienna. After 1932, no more buildings are known of him. Because of his Jewish descent, Hahn emigrated to Shanghai in 1941, where he died a little later.
meaning
Hahn's first residential complex for the municipality of Vienna shows decorative design, while his other buildings in the 1930s followed the sober and unadorned objectification of the formal language that began at that time. More interesting are his mansion buildings, which met the requirements of practical habitability well. He also dealt with the design of interiors and the design of furniture.
