Josef Hamberger (born February 2, 1884 in Kronstorf , Upper Austria ; † October 27, 1962 in Mattighofen , Upper Austria) was an Austrian worker , trade unionist and politician .

Life

Hamberger learned the Wagner trade and soon afterwards joined the Catholic Journeyman's Association . In order to further his education, he went hiking in Austria, Germany and Switzerland . In 1912 he found work as a skilled woodworker at the Steyrer Waffenwerke , joined the Christian trade union a year later and subsequently became its main shop steward . In 1918 Hamberger became a member of the provisional state assembly for the Christian Social Party . He was still active in the Christian trade union system, became secretary of the Christian trade union in Wels and then state secretary in Salzburg. From 1925 until it was dissolved, he headed the trade union secretariat in Steyr. After that he was employed by the Volksschutz health insurance company and also took care of the affairs of the Christian trade union and the Christian workers' associations. Hamberger married in 1922 and had a daughter.

From 1938 to 1945 Hamberger was employed as a controller of the regional health insurance fund, where he was repeatedly transferred and suffered great financial damage due to the many relocations. It was not until 1945 that he was accepted into the civil service of the Upper Austria Regional Health Insurance Fund. After the end of the war, he worked for the ÖVP and built up their workers' wing, especially in the Mattighofen area. Between 1945 and 1955 he was again a member of the state parliament for the ÖVP.
