Josef Heckenbach
Josef Heckenbach (born September 28, 1887 in Koblenz-Lützel ; missing since October 22, 1914 ) was a German classical philologist .
Josef Heckenbach, the son of the economist Jakob Heckenbach, attended the grammar school in Bensheim and after graduating (February 28, 1905) studied classical philology and history at the University of Münster . From 1906 to 1907 he spent three semesters at the University of Munich . On December 22, 1910, he passed the teaching examination in Latin, Greek and history. On December 27th he received his doctorate as Dr. phil. His dissertation De nuditate sacra sacrisque vinculis dealt with ancient cult images and appeared the following year in the series Religious History Trials and Preparations .
After the seminar year at the Royal Kaiser-Wilhelms-Gymnasium in Trier , he completed the probationary year at the Gymnasium in Stolberg (Rhineland) in 1912/1913 , where he then worked as a teacher. In addition, he wrote numerous articles for the Realencyklopadie of classical antiquity .
When the First World War broke out , Heckenbach volunteered. From October 1914 he was considered missing and was pronounced dead.
