Josef Holub (painter)

Josef Holub (born November 15, 1870 in Slaný , † August 22, 1957 in Kvasiny ) was a Czech landscape painter .

He spent his youth in Zákolany . After his apprenticeship as a painter in the craft and studying with Julius Mařák at the Prague Academy , he spent a short time in the Balkans after 1894 , then visited and deepened his knowledge at galleries in Germany and Austria, among others . At the end of the 19th century he settled in Kralupy nad Vltavou . He opened a photo shop and participated in social and cultural life. In 1952 he left his villa and moved to Kvasiny near Rychnov.

Holub focused on painting outdoors. His oil paintings mostly show landscapes of the Elbe Valley.
