Josef Jakowlewitsch Kotin ( Russian Жозеф Яковлевич Котин Shosef Jakowlewitsch Kotin ; born March  10, 1908 in Pavlograd , Yekaterinoslav Governorate , Russian Empire ; †  October 21, 1979 ) was a Russian chief designer of heavy Soviet military and civil vehicles.

Life

1931 joined the CPSU . In 1932 he graduated from the "FE Dzerzhinsky" military technical academy. In 1937 he became the main designer of the Kirov factory .

The heavy tanks KW-1 , KW-85 , IS-1 , IS-2 , IS-3 , the heavy self-propelled guns SU-152 , ISU-152 , ISU-122 , the light floating tank PT-76 , the tractor "Kirovets" as well as the traction device KT-12 and Kirowez K-700 were developed under his leadership.

During the Second World War he was Deputy People's Commissar for the Tank Industry . He was a member of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR and in 1972 became a member of the Scientific and Technical Advisory Board of the Ministry of Defense Industry.
