Josef Kainar (born June 29, 1917 in Přerov ; † November 16, 1971 in Dobříš ) was a Czech poet , dramaturge and translator as well as a member of Gruppe 42 .

Life

From 1938 to 1939 he studied the Czech language and French at Charles University in Prague . After the universities were closed by the German occupiers , he worked in various professions. After the Second World War he worked as a journalist and radio editor. He also worked with theaters. After 1947 he devoted himself only to literature.

Kainar was also engaged in music and played the piano, guitar and violin at a high level.

His first works were shaped by existential socialism . Typical for him were irony that bordered on cynicism and ridicule, as well as the high musicality of his poems, some of which were also set to music. His poem You Balded the Little Boy (Stříhali do hola malého chlapečka) - a symbol of war, the fear of war and the transition from child to adulthood - became a hit in the Czech Republic as a song sung by Vladimír Mišík .
