Josef Kitzmüller

Josef Kitzmüller (born June 21, 1912 - May 14, 1979 ) was an Austrian football player . The striker won the silver medal with the Austrian amateur selection at the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin .

Career

Josef Kitzmüller played for SK Admira Linz in the Upper Austrian regional league. At that time, the league was aimed at amateur players and was not connected to the professional Austrian championship, which at that time was limited to the Vienna area. With the Admirans, the striker was in tough competition with Linz ASK and SV Urfahr Linz , but never succeeded in the championship. Coach Jimmy Hogan took him to the Olympic Games in Berlin in 1936, although he had not yet played a game for the Austrian amateur national team. For Josef Kitzmüller, however, the games were already over after the scandalous game against Peru due to injury, he was replaced by Karl Kainberger . The Austrian team nevertheless reached the Olympic final, which was lost 1: 2 in extra time to Italy .
