Josef Knab
Josef Knab (born December 5, 1894 , † April 16, 1945 in Düsseldorf ) was a German engineer and businessman and a resistance fighter against the Nazi regime .
Resistance in Düsseldorf
On April 16, 1945, Josef Knab took part in Aktion Rheinland with the aim of handing the city of Düsseldorf over to the US armed forces without a fight. But he was arrested, sentenced to the death penalty by an express court and executed a few hours before Düsseldorf was liberated.
Honors
Josef Knab has a grave of honor in the Düsseldorf North Cemetery . It is on field 70 and has the number 141.
According to him, which is Josef Knab-Straße in Dusseldorf-Golzheim been named.
In 1999 the death sentence was overturned by law.
