Josef Marek or József Marek (born March 18 or March 19, 1868 in Vágszerdahely , Neutra County , Kingdom of Hungary ; † September 7, 1952 in Budapest ) was a Hungarian veterinarian and from 1898 to 1935 professor of veterinary pathology at the University of Veterinary Medicine Budapest . In 1907 he first described a herpes virus disease in poultry, which is now called Marek's disease after him . His textbooks appeared in several editions and have been translated into several languages. Marek had been a member of the Leopoldina since 1925 .
