Josef Pavlu

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Josef Pavlu (born April 23, 1877 in Frankstadt , Moravia , † 1948 in Vienna ) was an Austrian classical philologist .

After completing his studies, Pavlu worked as a teacher, among other places, at the Landstrasser Gymnasium in Vienna , where Ludwig Bieler was one of his students.

He distinguished himself as an editor, commentator and translator of Plato's works . His scientific investigations into the Platonic and Pseudo-Platonic dialogues are received to this day. For example, as early as 1909, Pavlu considered the Kleitophon dialogue merely for the schoolwork of a peripatetic and therefore pseudo-platonic. Most classical scholars have agreed with this view.
