Josef Pilz (local history researcher)

Josef Franz Wilhelm Pilz (born December 3, 1870 in Komotau , † August 5, 1941 in Neudek ) was a Bohemian specialist teacher, school director, archivist, local researcher and honorary citizen of the city of Neudek.

Life

Josef Pilz came to Komotau as the son of the turner Josef Pilz and his wife Maria Johanna geb. Man to world. He studied at the teachers' college in Komotau and worked as a teacher in St. Joachimsthal and Neudek from 1889 to 1900 . From 1900 he was the director of the boys' bourgeois school in Neudek. From 1911 to 1941 he was the administrator of the city archives. From 1909 on he began to write a book entitled "History of the City of Neudek", which was published in a first version in the form of a booklet in 1909 and in a second extended edition in 1923 by the municipality. It was the first comprehensive work on the history of the city and region. As a member of the German Social Democratic Workers' Party , he ran for mayor's office in 1931 and sat on the city council. He was made an honorary citizen of the city.

Honors

In his honor, a memorial plaque was unveiled on December 11, 2010 in Neudek on his former home.
