Josef Rabl (alpinist)

Josef Rabl (* 19th January 1844 in Vienna , † 29. August 1923 ) was an Austrian mountaineer and Travel book - author .

Life

Josef Rabl initially worked as a bank clerk, but from around the age of 30 he turned completely to alpine writing. At the beginning he worked for the magazine “Der Tourist”. As a result, he wrote countless specialist articles and travel guides. In 1882 he became an honorary citizen of Dölsach . His "Tauernbahnführer" (1906), where the journeys on the "New Austrian Alpine Railways" were described in detail for the first time, is legendary. In old age, Rabl was impoverished, sick and could only survive with the help of friends.
