Josef Reinhard , actually Josef Alois Alfons Reinert , partly also Joseph Reinhard (born January 23, 1749 in Lucerne ; † May 28, 1824 there ) was a Swiss painter and draftsman .

Live and act

He was the son of Joseph Ignaz Reinert and Anna Maria Bättig. In 1765 he received a scholarship from the Lucerne government to train with an unknown artist in Lucca and Rome , where he studied for two years at the Accademia di San Luca in the circle of Pompeo Batoni and Domenico Corvi . On February 19, 1776 he married Anna Schriber, on January 1, 1777 their daughter Clara was born, who later helped out as a draftsman in his workshop.

He achieved fame primarily through his traditional costumes from all over Switzerland. Collections of his works can be found in the Historisches Museum Bern and the Kunstmuseum Luzern . Pictures and drawings have also been preserved from his daughter Clara Reinhard (1777–1848).
