Sepp Reinhard , (actually Josef , known as Katastrophen-Sepp , born December 29, 1931 in Sachseln ) is a Swiss photographer .

biography

Sepp Reinhard is the son of the photographer Joseph Reinhard (1901–1975) and the father of the photographer Daniel Reinhard (* 1960). His father initially had a hairdresser in Flüeli-Ranft , where he developed the tourists' films. He taught himself to take photos and thus became a landscape photographer and postcard publisher. In 1932 he opened a stationery and photo shop in Sachseln.

Sepp Reinhard continued his father's craft. He photographed automobile racing from 1946 to 1979 . He got his start in Formula 1 photography with the Swiss Grand Prix in Bern in 1950 . In addition to car photography, he was active as a press photographer in the canton of Obwalden for decades . Since he was one of the first to be on site in many accidents, he was nicknamed Disaster Sepp . In order to be informed in good time, he had written out a five-liter as a reward for reporting .

His son Daniel Reinhard became an industrial and advertising photographer and made a name for himself in particular as a Formula 1 photographer. In 1979 he took over this task from his father and has since photographed 470 Formula 1 races (as of 2011).

In the storm of August 15, 1997, the Reinhard's house in Sachseln was also affected. A third of the photo archive was destroyed. On his 80th birthday, the canton of Obwalden honored Sepp Reinhard with the fact that his works were exhibited as large-format posters in eight locations in the canton. In 2019 Fotohaus Reinhard was honored with the Obwalden Culture Prize.

Sepp Reinhard lives with his wife Rösi in Sachseln.
