Daniel Reinhard (born August 27, 1960 in Sachseln ) is a Swiss photographer specializing in car racing ( Formula 1 , DTM , Formula E, etc.), vintage cars, and industrial and advertising photography.

Life

Daniel Reinhard comes from a photographer dynasty. His grandfather Joseph Reinhard (1901–1975) opened a stationery and photo shop in Sachseln in 1932. He had taught himself to take photographs and was a landscape photographer and postcard publisher. Daniel Reinhard's father is Sepp Reinhard (* 1931), known as Katastrophen-Sepp .

After primary school, Daniel Reinhard attended grammar school. At first he wanted to become a doctor, but after a serious illness and an operation he had had enough of medicine. So he trained as a photographer at the higher graphic federal, teaching and research institute in Vienna. After graduating, he stayed in the Austrian capital for a year and worked as an assistant at Photo Studio 2. Since 1986, Daniel Reinhard has been working internationally as a freelance industrial and advertising photographer.

Daniel Reinhard runs a photo studio in Alpnach . Together with Bruno von Rotz and Balz Schreier, he founded the company Zwischengas AG , which operates the Zwischengas website , an online platform for the topics of “classic automobiles” (oldtimers) and “historic racing cars”.

Daniel Reinhard is married and has two children.

Formula 1 photography

In 1976 Reinhard began to photograph the Swiss automobile championship. In 1979 he took over Formula 1 photography from his father. First, he photographed all European Formula 1 races. He has been on the road for the magazines sport auto and auto motor und sport since 1987 and photographed all of the Formula 1 races for them. In addition to the magazines, his photos have also appeared in the large-format Formula 1 calendars of auto motor und sport . With two exceptions, Reinhard has photographed all Formula 1 races since 1987. In a report from 2004 for Swiss Radio and Television (SRF), Reinhard was "a sought-after photographer in the Formula 1 circus." The SRF also noted: "His pictures of Schumacher's Ferrari and Raikkonen's Mercedes go around the world".

On November 4, 2012, Reinhard photographed his 500th Formula 1 race with the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix . Bernie Ecclestone therefore awarded him the plaque of honor for 500 Formula 1 races photographed in Monza . He photographed a total of 553 Formula 1 races between 1979 and 2016. At the end of 2016, he gave up Formula 1 photography and continues to shoot various racing series such as DTM and Formula E for BMW Motorsport .

Reinhard's photos are used in Formula 1 yearbooks, for example in the auto motor und sport Formula 1 yearbook 2013 and in the Formula 1 yearbook 2008 by Michael Schmidt. In addition, his photos are used by a large number of media, for example by bild.de , Neue Zürcher Zeitung blick.ch , motorsport-total.com, motorsport-magazin.com, Zürcher Oberländer , Migros-Magazin and Schweiz am Sonntag .
