Josef Rief (theologian)

Josef Rief (born October 18, 1924 in Pfahlheim near Aalen ) is a Catholic theologian.

Rief obtained his school leaving certificate in Günzburg in 1942 . He spent five years - from 1942 to 1947 - in the Wehrmacht and as a French prisoner of war. From 1947 to 1951 he studied Catholic theology in Tübingen. In 1952 he was ordained a priest. In 1963 he completed his habilitation in moral theology . From 1965 to 1972 he was professor for Christian social teaching in Tübingen . In 1972 he became a professor for moral theology at the University of Regensburg .

As a professor of moral theology in Regensburg, he supervised the dissertations of Walter Fürst , Hans Gleixner and Bruno Schmid . In 2012 he celebrated his 60th anniversary as a priest with a thanksgiving service in the Pfahlheim parish church of St. Nicholas. He spends his retirement with the St. Anna sisters in Ellwangen .
