Josef Vogl (born June 22, 1848 in Emmering , † June 22, 1886 in Baiernrain ) is one of the fathers of the traditional costume movement in Bavaria .

Life

Vogl was born in Emmering in 1848 as the fourth child of the teacher Anton Vogl and his wife Walburga (née Schwägerl). From 1870 to January 29, 1876 Vogl worked as a teacher in Grafing and then came to Bayrischzell . Around 1883 he campaigned for the preservation of old costumes and local customs and on August 25, 1883, together with other young boys, founded the “Association for the Preservation of Folk Costumes in Leitzachthal” and thus the first mountain costume preservation association in Bavaria.

In 1885 he took over the tavern and butcher's shop in Baiernrain. On June 22, 1886 he died there of a lung disease.
