Josef Wasserburger

Josef Wasserburger , better known as the Wirtsepperl z'Garching (born November 15, 1788 in Garching an der Alz ; † July 1, 1857 there ) was a Bavarian zither player and folk singer .

Life

Wasserburger was the oldest son of the Garching innkeeper and butcher.

The first passages of the "Wirtsepperl-Lied" have been known in Upper Bavaria since 1855. Verses written later portray him as a deserter and freedom-loving lawbreaker since the 20th century.

The restaurant in Garching today bears the name "Wirtsepperl".
