Josef Wondrak

Josef Wondrak (born November 8, 1893 in Stockerau ; † November 15, 1982 in Tulln an der Donau ) was an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ) and health insurance officer. Wondrak was a member of the Lower Austrian state parliament from 1945 to 1964 and its second president from 1949 to 1964.

Life

Wondrak learned the trade of ribbon weaver and worked in Germany from 1912. Between 1914 and 1917 he did military service during the First World War , from 1926 he worked as an employee of the Floridsdorf district health insurance fund . He was involved in local politics and was a councilor in Stockerau from 1920 to 1934, before he lost his mandate when the Social Democratic Party was banned and was temporarily arrested in 1934. He was then unemployed until 1938. After the end of the Second World War, Wondrak was elected mayor of Stockerau, where he held this office between 1945 and 1970. He was also made an honorary citizen. Furthermore, Wondrak represented the SPÖ between December 12, 1945 and November 19, 1964 in the Lower Austrian state parliament. In addition, he was chairman of the financial control committee from 1945 to 1947 and served as the second president of the state parliament between November 5, 1949 and November 19, 1964.
