features

The forehead of the little digger wasps is broad and flat, the inner rims of the eyes are parallel. The mandibles are bidentate. The posterior corners of the mesonotum are turned inwards and the medial artery of the hind wings arises behind the anal cell. There are species whose abdomen is rust-red at the base or whose thorax is marked red. Some species also have weak bands on the tergites of the abdomen.

Way of life

The females create their simple nests in the sandy soil. They consist of one to two or more cells. The brood is supplied with nymphs of dwarf leafhoppers (Cicadellidae) and blood leaf hoppers (Cercopidae). The prey is stung and the head is processed (malaxed) with the mandibles, then they are transported away in flight. The eggs are laid on the belly or on the side of the animals. The species of the genus are mainly parasitized by Nysson distinguendus Nysson dimidiatus Nysson maculatus and Hedychridium roseum and Hedychridium cupreum .
