Harpactus elegans is a hymenoptera fromthe Crabronidae family .
features
The animals reach a body length of 7 to 9 millimeters (females) or 5.5 to 7.5 millimeters (males). The abdomen is colored red at the base, the third and fourth tergites of the abdomen usually have a yellow band. The lobe of the pronotum and the pronotum itself are colored yellow. The dorsal field is wrinkled to the end, the pleures of the mesonotum are punctured.
Occurrence
The species occurs in North Africa, South and Central Europe and in Turkey. It populates areas of drift sand and silver grass meadows . The animals fly from early June to probably early October. The species is very rare in Central Europe.
Way of life
The females of Harpactus elegans create their nests in the loose sandy soil. The brood is supplied with cicadas from the families Issidae and Cicadellidae .
