Joseph Chapel in Bobojach

The Josefskapelle is a Roman Catholic chapel in the community of Prägraten am Großvenediger . The baroque sacred building dates from the 18th century and is located in the Bobojach fraction . The chapel is under monument protection ( list entry ).

location

The Josefskapelle is located in a closely built-up location in the middle of the small Bobojach fraction next to the Lindner inn (Bobojach 12). The building is on the street and is surrounded by a meadow on two sides.

history

After the Knappenhäusl burned down with a prayer stick in 1743 , the residents of Bobojach built the Joseph Chapel on the site of the fire ruins in 1760. The sacred building was consecrated in 1762, and a tower was added to the nave in 1803. A gallery that was originally on the entrance wall was removed during restoration work in 1969 and 1970.

Building

The chapel has a rectangular floor plan with a polygonal choir and is provided with a steep, shingled gable roof . Above the entrance side in the west is a clapboard-covered roof turret with a slightly curved pyramid roof and arched sound windows, at the top a sphere, cross and sun. Originally there were two bells in the tower, which were cast by Johann Grassmayr in Brixen in 1764 and 1858, respectively. Another was made by Josef Dengg in Jenbach. The bells were melted down during the two world wars and later replaced with new ones. A bell from the 15th century is located under the canopy.

The chapel is plastered in white. The entrance area is protected by a pent roof. In the entrance area there is a round window with a viewing window above the arched portal and a cross-shaped light slot in the gable area. The ceiling of the church space is formed from a barrel vault with flat belts over a profile cornice. The floor is made of brick panels. The altar area is raised by one step.

The interior is characterized by a columnar altar built in 1805 and restored in 1970. The wide, wooden altar with reddish brown and gray marbling has sacrificial portals and a volute extract . The altarpiece from 1834 shows Saint Joseph sitting at a table with the baby Jesus. The excerpt shows the Holy Trinity . In the cross-crowned tendril attachment is a painting medallion with depictions of St. Ulrich and St. Florian . Above the sacrificial passage portals there are depictions of St. Roch and probably St. Eustachius . Two small angels and two flame vases crown the extract.

The stalls with curved cheeks, arranged in two blocks in the chapel, date from around 1800. The paintings of the Stations of the Cross in oil on canvas in the nave and choir were made in 1763/64. The chapel also features a figure of St. Joseph with child, a Pietà, a figure of the risen Christ, a rosary Madonna and a lecture cross with a representation of Mary in the chapel, as well as a standing cross in front of the high altar and a Christ child behind glass.
