Josep Pinós i Comes (born January 15, 1867 in Barcelona , † December 24, 1916 ibid) was a Catalan modernist painter who was artistically close to the painting school of Olot .

life and work

Josep Pinós studied at the Escuela de Bellas Artes de Barcelona . He spent almost his entire life in Barcelona and worked as a painter above all in the vicinity of family and friends. For this reason, it is only known in specialist circles. He was not economically dependent on selling his pictures and mainly gave them away in his closer, personal environment. However, he presented his works in group exhibitions. B. in the Barcelona Sala Parés or in Olot.

His work was discussed in detail in important cultural magazines such as La Ilustración artística , Hispania and Pel i ploma , the magazine by Ramon Casas . Josep Pinós signed his pictures with his two surnames so as not to be confused with his painter colleague Joan Pinós i Pallà. The subjects he painted were portraits and landscapes - especially from the region around Olot, where he owned a house. Here he came into artistic contact with representatives of the Olot School. He also created numerous studies of pets on his property in the Horta district of Barcelona.

The fact that Josep Pinós did not emerge as a well-known artist does not change the great artistic value of his works, which are characterized by a high level of sensitivity. Josep Pinós died in Barcelona on December 24, 1916 at the age of 49.
