Joseph-Maurice Exelmans

Joseph-Maurice, vicomte Exelmans (born April 19, 1816 in Ixelles / Elsene , † July 25, 1875 in Rochefort ) was a French admiral.

Joseph-Maurice was the son of the Marshal of France Rémy-Isidore Exelmans . He joined the Navy in 1831, became a frigate captain in 1851, rear admiral in 1864, and vice admiral in 1874. He was head of the Rhine Flotilla and a member of the Conseil d'amirauté . In 1874/75 he was naval prefect of the 4th marine arrondissement in Rochefort .

His son was General Charles-Marie-Jacques-Octave Exelmans, born in 1854 .
