life and work

Seethaler was born in Dießen and probably did an apprenticeship with a regional master metalworker. After a few years of traveling he came to Augsburg. With the acquisition of the master craftsman's license there in 1766, his economic circumstances allowed him to marry. 1779–1786 he was the forerunner of the goldsmiths ' guild, from 1788 a juggler of the guild; At the same time he was first a princely and, from 1808, a royal Bavarian court silver worker. His son was Johann Alois Seethaler (1775–1835), who continued the workshop, as did his grandson Joseph. The works handed down by father and son include liturgical implements , especially in the Neresheim monastery , secular tableware e.g. B. in theMunich residence and Jewish cult objects.
