Joseph Barber Lightfoot

Joseph Barber Lightfoot (born April 13, 1828 in Liverpool , † December 12, 1889 in Bournemouth ) was a British theologian and Anglican Bishop of Durham .

Lightfoot was a member of Trinity College at Cambridge University . In 1861 he became Hulsean professor of divinity and in 1875 Lady Margaret professor at Cambridge.

In 1879 he became bishop of Durham. His successor was Brooke Foss Westcott , with whom he developed new methods of biblical research.
