Joseph Gan Junqiu

Joseph Gan Junqiu ( Chinese  甘俊邱  /  甘俊邱 , Pinyin Gān Jùnqiū , born April 4, 1964 in Guangdong ) is a Chinese Roman Catholic Archbishop .

Gan Junqiu graduated from the Theological and Philosophical Seminar for Central and South China in Wuhan in 1991, he was a member of the second graduate class. In the same year he was ordained a priest and taught there until 2000 as dean of study and general affairs. He then returned to the diocese of Guangzhou , where he became the diocesan chancellor and director of the ecclesiastical property committee. On December 4, 2007, he became Archbishop of Guangzhou with the approval of the Pope and the Chinese authorities.

Bishop Gan was detained for several days by the Chinese authorities in July 2011, along with his fellow ministers Liang Jiansen ( Jiangmen ), Liao Hongqing ( Meizhou ) and Su Yongda ( Zhanjiang ), who took him to Shantou for an episcopal ordination.
