Joseph Hörwick

Joseph Hörwick (born September 23, 1879 in Münster near Schwabmünchen, † 1960 ) was a German teacher and geologist.

Hörwick was head of the elementary school in the Munich district of Berg am Laim and school councilor of the local school district. He initiated the student and teacher hikes.

In addition, he was chairman of the Society for Bavarian Regional Studies , researched the geology of his homeland and built up an important rock collection.

In 1948 the Bavarian Academy of Sciences awarded him the “Bene merenti” medal in silver for his geological exhibitions. In 1952 he received the Cross of Merit (Steckkreuz) of the Federal Republic of Germany. The Joseph-Hörwick-Weg in Munich is named after him.
