Joseph Hansen (choreographer)

Joseph Hansen (born March 8, 1842 in Brussels , † July 27, 1907 in Paris ) was a Belgian dancer and choreographer .

Life

At the Théâtre de la Monnaie in Brussels he worked as a ballet director (1865–1871) and ballet master (1871–1875). In his last capacity he created the first choreography of the Coppélia on November 29, 1871 .

From 1879 to 1882 he was ballet master at the Bolschoitheater in Moscow , where he gave the Swan Lake (1880) by Marius Petipa and studied the Russian premiere of Coppélia (1882). He then went to the Alhambra Theater in London (1884–1887) and finally to the Paris Opéra Garnier (1887–1907).
