Joseph Jon Bruno

Joseph Jon Bruno (born November 17, 1946 ) is an American , Anglican Bishop of Los Angeles of the Episcopal Church of the United States of America .

Life

After finishing school, Bruno first worked as a police officer in the city of Burbank , California . He was also under contract as a football player with the Denver Broncos . After an athletic injury, Bruno had to give up his professional career as a football player and police officer. Bruno studied Anglican theology and obtained a Master of Divinity from Virginia Theological Semiar in 1977 . In 1978 Bruno was ordained a priest by Bishop Robert Claflin Rusack and then worked as a priest in the parish of St. Athanasius in Los Angeles , where he helped found the Cathedral Center in the Echo Park district . On November 13, 1999, Bruno became Bishop coadjutor in Los Angeles. He was ordained bishop on April 29, 2000 by Bishops Richard Lester Shimpfky and Frederick Borsch and Chester Lovelle Talton at the Los Angeles Convention Center . In 2001 Bruno received an honorary doctorate from the Virginia Theological Semiar . On February 1, 2002, Bruno succeeded Frederick Borsch as Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Los Angeles . Bruno is married to Mary Bruno and they have three children.
