Joseph Nunoo-Mensah

Joseph Nunoo-Mensah (born February 14, 1939 in Winneba , Ghana ) was Brigadier General of the Ghanaian Armed Forces and a leading politician in the military government of the Provisional National Defense Council (PNDC) under Jerry Rawlings in Ghana.

Brigadier General Nunoo-Mensah was named Chief of Defense Staff during the first military rule under Jerry Rawlings and his Armed Forces Revolutionary Council in 1979. In November 1979 he was retired by the now democratic government of the People's National Party under Hilla Limann .

After the second successful coup by Jerry Rawlings, Nunoo-Mensah was appointed by Rawlings to serve on the PNDC military government on January 2, 1982. As early as November 1982, differences with Rawlings led to his resignation from the military government. Today he is a member of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP). In the presidential elections of 1998 he was the campaign manager for the candidate of the NPP internal election campaign of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo , who was defeated by the later presidential candidate of the NPP John Agyekum Kufuor .
