“In the post-Council period it soon became apparent that the changed theological situation and the new situation at the German universities continued to place so much stress on me that the work on Bonaventure had to be postponed to the time of my retirement. The Lord has led me in other ways in the meantime, and so the book now appears in its present form. “In Cardinal Frings I had a 'father' who exemplified this spirit of the Kozil. He was of great openness and breadth, but he also knew that only faith leads out into the open, into the breadth that is closed to the positivist attitude. He wanted to serve this faith with the authority received in the sacrament of episcopal ordination. I can always be grateful to him that he took me - the youngest professor of the Catholic Theological Faculty of the University of Bonn - as his advisor to the big church assembly, so that I was with him in this school and followed the path of the council from within could. This volume contains the various writings with which I have spoken out in this school. "
